Sixth Week Reflection

After the Xmas vacation, schools were opened on 31st December. On this day I had a regular period on 9th standard. The topic was allotropes of carbon. For explaining this I choosed a new method of teaching. On the same day I got a substitution class on 8th standard. So I started next chapter 'sound'.

On Tuesday there was no class in the afternoon session. So I had'nt any class on this day. There were no regular classes on Wednesday and Thursday.

On Friday I had a regular class on 8th standard. The topic was production of sound.5E model was used to explain the topic. On the same day I got a substitution class on 9th standard.Using concept attainment model I taught the topic hydrocarbon.

Saturday was a working day.On this day I had a period on 9th standard.Using advance organizer model I taught the topic alkanes in the class...

In this way , I successfully complete all my lesson transcripts. ..

Classroom interaction procedure
Teacher

Introduction:after establishing a good rapport with students the teacher checks the knowledge of pupil about carbon
Today you are going to interview me ,can you guess who Iam?
I am carbon
Students
Greet the teacher and listen to her carefully
Teacher                     :
Presentation
Common, quickly form four groups.Distribute the questions to each group kindly go through questions carefully. After that select your representative to interview me.If you need any information kindly feel free to ask me and I will try to help you
Student
Hello, can you please introduce yourself?
Teacher
I am Carbone. In my family we are five members, silicone , Germanium, Tin, Lead, and me
Student
Mr. carbon, you play a very important role in our daily life. Can you tell me how you must exist on earth?
Teacher
I am  the basis of life, without allotropes I cannot exist if I disappear off the face of the earth right now, all life itself would cease to exist, without me life itself would not be possible.
Student
What is allotropy?
Teacher
Allotropy is the phenomenon by which the same element exist in different physical forms
Student
Would you please explain how you form allotropy?
Teacher
I am different from the other elements I am so unique that  I am  capable of binding to myself and other elements through the use of single, double and triple bonds. This results in chains and rings. When I bind myself in chains and rings I form allotropes
Student
When we think of carbon, what comes to our mind is a black, chalky substance coal. How do you transform yourself in to beautiful and transparent diamonds?
Teacher
Most people probably think of me as coal, but actually 100% of me is diamond and only 92% is coal. Diamond is the hardest naturally occurring substance. It is an excellent insulator of electricity. It is used in the preparation of ornaments and in industry.
Student
It is a known fact that graphite is a good conductor of electricity. Can you give me a few more characteristic properties of graphite?
Teacher
I am a smooth in the form of graphite. Graphite does not vaporize and has high melting point. I am used as lubricant to reduce friction in machines.
Student
Carbon, you are nicknamed bucky balls, Do you like that name?
Teacher
Yes of course, I am proud of it because another interesting allotrope of me called fullerene was designed by the American architect Buckminster Fuller. Fullerenes and its compoundsare of great use as catalysts, lubricants and super conductors of electricity
Student
Does any other allotrope exist ?
Teacher
Yes of course, Myanother allotrope is graphene. It is the basic unit of graphite and fullerene. It is two hundred times stronger than steel and also a good conductor of heat and electricity
Student
You are awesome.
Congratulations. You performed very well
Teacher
Thank you for your whole hearted participation and co-operation

Consolidation

  •        Allotropy is the phenomenon by which the same element exist in different physical forms
  •     Diamond, graphite, fullerene and graphene  are the crystalline allotropes of carbon.

REPORT OF CONSCIENTIZATION PROGRAMME

Introduction

The concept of conscientization is the process of developing a critical awareness of one’s social reality through reflection and action. The concept conscientization is linked with the work of Paulo Freire and especially his pedagogy of the oppressed. The definition given by Paulo Freire in his cultural action for freedom is that “conscientization refers to the process in which men are not mere recipients, but as knowing subjects achieve a depending awareness both of the social cultural reality which shapes their lives and their capacity to transform that reality. Conscentization means to give conscious awareness to people, on certain issues that need urgent improvement”. The objective of conscientization is to power the knowledge by facilitating a learning   process that would develop critical consciousness. It also aims at developing a critical awareness to that individual can take action against the oppressive element.

Need and Significance

As a part of our BED curriculum we conducted a conscientization  programme for the eighth standard students of NSMGHS, Kottiyam. An awareness class was provided to the students based on the topic “moral values”.  The topic was mainly selected because the topic is very relevant at present. Today’s youth is tomorrow’s generation. So the awareness at the childhood is very important.
Moral values are the principles that guide us throughout our lives. From childhood to adulthood we keep on knowing and transforming ourselves and so do our morals. Moral values are important in life because

  •  Moral values reflect an individual’s character and spirituality

  • Moral values help in building good relationships in personal as well as professional lives
  •   It helps in eradicating problems like dishonesty, violence, cheating, jealousy from our life.
  •   Moral values can be a key to self-motivation.
  •   Moral values can counter bad influences in society like disregarding women, child abuse violence, crimes agitations etc.
  •   It can help to deal with tough situations in life.
Objectives
  •   To develop an awareness about moral values
  •  To build up moral values in lives
  •  To find out the importance of moral values in a person’s life.
Report

As part of our BEd curriculum, the conscientization programme was conducted for the eight standard student of NSMGHS, KOTTIYAM. The topic I selected was“Moral values”. The programme was conducted on 29thNovember 2018, Thursday. At first I obtained  the permission from the school headmistress Beena David. The class was  conducted in the afternoon session. The programme started with a prayer song by our classmate Sreelekha.Inauguration of the programme was done by school headmistress Beena David. She gave a small introduction about moral values and also conveys her wishes. Our concerned teacher Linda miss was also present in this session. After the inaugural session I started the awareness class. I introduced the class by pointing out decreasing moral values. Then I briefly explained the different moral  values, its importance, relevance etc. after the lecturing section some pictures, slogans and some videos related to moral values were showed pupil were very interested in seeing videos. After that three students from the class gave reflection about my class. The class ended with the singing of the national anthem.

Reflection

After the awareness class and the presentation of the video students were asked to express their opinion regarding the class about moral values. Three students Asifa, Fathima, and Nakshathra came in front of the class and expressed their opinion regarding the awareness they received. They also mentioned about the moral values they understood from the video. After hearing their reflection, I felt happy about how useful the class was for the students. The students become more aware of the moral values after hearing the class.

Conclusion

For building up a new generation committed to the development and well-being of the society on appropriate training and motivation is imperative. The main aim of  conscientization process is to build a dynamic change force never compromising with the status of the traditional thinking, attitude and habits.
The conscientization programme based on the topic”moral values” was conducted smoothly. The awareness programme had a great effect on the students. Education served as a best instrument of conscientization. Thus the conscientization programme was very effective and relevant to the present scenario.
